hi there,

we got a glowforge basic with a non working camera. both cables are replaced and i’ve measured the connections from the main board to the camera ribbon just before it attaches to the camera module. the connections are fine. so i suspect the camera module (hopefully not the main board)

the setup procedure is stuck at the camera step, so i cannot do the rest of the tests.

is the camera really needed? can i skip this test and see if the laser tube is still doing something for example?

It’s not needed, and it should operate just fine without it in GRBL mode.

I am wrapping up the next release that makes most of the setup steps (including the camera tests) optional.

I _hope_ to get it released later today.

If you are feeling froggy and don’t want to wait for the next release, you can [skip the setup](https://docs.forgefirm.org/usage/setup/?h=setup-override#the-gate) by entering this in the console:

```shell
touch /run/forgefirm/setup-override
```

That does not survive a reboot, so you need to enter after every boot.

hmm. touch /run/forgefirm/setup-override does not do anything. i am still stuck at the camera step.

but i think this can be solved with the new firmware.

i am unable to find a howto for the update.

The new version has been released with the fixes.

My recommendation is to use the link on the setup page to restore the device to factory.
Once in the factory console, run `rm -rf /data/forgefirm` and then reinstall ForgeFIRM as you did previously.

Once you finish the first few required setup steps, you can click the link at the bottom of the page to skip the rest and go to the console. You can run any of the steps that you would like to run from the “Setup” tab on the console.
